Gravity Probe B

Testing Einstein's Universe

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 12 NOVEMBER 1999:

STANFORD HIGHLIGHT
Payload test continued this week with the completion of Phase B testing and the beginning of Phase C testing. The dewar was tilted to a horizontal orientation to close out Phase B. Gyroscopes #3 and #4 were successfully caged. The SRE EU and the GSS EU were operated on gyroscope #3 to perform an EMI/EMC test. The SRE functioned nominally with the GSS operating in spinup mode (the most demanding mode for the SRE). Preliminary noise measurements look encouraging. The team members involved in the SRE/GSS test include R. Brumley, J. Lockhart, and T. McGinnis. Team members involved in the caging operations include K. Bower, C. Gray, and C. Warren.
