Gravity Probe B

Testing Einstein's Universe

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 12 June 1998:

STANFORD HIGHLIGHT
Dr. Doron Bardas has completed the fabrication and testing of the main vacuum valves for the GP-B Science Mission. Three probe valves (2 flight and one spare) and 4 exhaust valves (spare to be delivered in 3 weeks) have been delivered to Stanford. This represents a complete flight set of valves.

SPACE VEHICLE HIGHLIGHT
Relativity Mission Electrical Product Development Team members attended the successful Final Data Review for the spacecraft magnetic torquer bars at Ithaco Space, Inc., Ithaca, New York on Tuesday, June 2. Magnetic moment scale factor, residual moment, impedance, inductance and mechanical measurements data was reviewed and trended to ensure consistent performance between baseline function, post vibration functional, and post thermal functional testing. All three torquer bars successfully performed within their specification requirements. The torquer bars are being packaged and shipped to LMMS for installation onto the space vehicle.
