We used to think that the speed of sound was impassable, isn't the speed of light the same thing?
No, because the speed of light permeats EVERY experiment that physicists have conducted for the last 100 years. Not a single chink in this wall has ever been seen to suggest that matter or energy can travel even so much as 1 micron per second faster than light speed. If there is a way to do it, nature is not telling us by showing a single phenomenon where it naturally happens.
