SPACE VEHICLE HIGHLIGHT
All three Relativity Mission solar array substrate coefficient of thermal
expansion (CTE) coupons are in house. These composite honeycomb structures
are composed of an aluminum core and graphite/epoxy face sheets.
The panels
are designed to have very low CTE to minimize the effect
of thermal
distortions on the science experiment. The first coupon
has been
successfully tested in building 251. Photo: LMMS engineer
Tim Ho with the test set used to measure solar array panel
coefficient of thermal expansion.
