Gravity Probe B

Testing Einstein's Universe

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 16 July 1999:

STANFORD HIGHLIGHT

The gyroscope payload test team successfully completed room temperature test of the four flight gyroscopes. The testing included a trial caging, levitations of the gyroscopes, a 0.3 Hz spin of each gyroscope, and a position offset of each spinning gyroscope to its spinup location. The completion of this test clears the way for the probe to be inserted into the dewar. The gyroscope team members involved in this work include Rob Brumley, Bruce Clarke, Russ Lesse, Chris Gray, and Dorenne Ross.
