If space can be bent, can it also be sliced?

As physicists, we don't know just how badly space can get sliced and diced. Mathematicians routinely slice and dice the kinds of spaces they study, but there is no evidence that physical space can be sliced. It can be deformed, warped and badly bent...but not sliced!
