WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 26 September 1997:
STANFORD HIGHLIGHT
Dr.
Jason Gwo and Ken Bower have completed the manufacturing and
bonding of
the Image Divider Assembly (IDA) for telescope #3,
the primary flight
telescope. Preliminary testing indicates
that the IDA meets requirements.
The IDA has been bonded onto
the telescope and the alignment has been
verified after curing
for one week. The boresight is perpendicular to the
base to
within about 2 arc sec, which is well within the acceptable
range of
up to about 10 arc sec.
SPACE VEHICLE HIGHLIGHT
The Dewar Axial Lock Failure Investigation Technical Team
reported the
final results of their investigation to
Stanford University on 22
September. The team described
the redesign options and delineated the
development test
plan. Additionally, they presented the best candidate
"use
as is" concepts. Work is now proceeding with design and
procurement of the redesign solutions, and in parallel with
in-depth
analyses and detailed design of the "use-as-is" option.
These results
will be presented to Stanford on 8 October.
