WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 18 AUGUST 2000:
PAYLOAD HIGHLIGHT
The gyroscope group has successfully installed gyroscope #4 in the Science Instrument. Chris Gray has led the team of Ken Bower and Bruce Clarke in
performing this operation, under the QA supervision of Russ Leese. Alignment checks, and instrumentation and spin-up connections will take
place in the next week.
The Gyroscope Suspension System (GSS) flight unit team and the GSS testbed
team successfully lifted a simulated science mission gyroscope with a flight-equivalent Analog Backup controller. This demonstrates that the
redesigned and upgraded testbed is of sufficiently low noise and high fidelity to simulate a science mission gyroscope and also demonstrates that
the flight like interfaces on the GSS function properly as well. Team members Mike Irwin, David Hipkins, and Rob Brumley participated in this
effort.
