Gravity Probe B

Testing Einstein's Universe

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 19 February 1999:

STANFORD HIGHLIGHT
Under the direction of Dr. Bill Bencze, the GSS group has completed a set of engineering unit (but flight-like) printed wiring assemblies. These assemblies are now being installed into both the forward and aft boxes. In addition, the GSS team is now in the process of preparing the PWBs for the Peer Review and release process.

Preparations have begun for bonding the flight telescope to the flight quartz block. The actual bonding will likely take place on 2/17/99. Following the bonding, the gyroscopes will be installed, then the probe will be integrated with the quartz block/telescope, and finally the SQUIDs and retention hardware will be installed.

SPACE VEHICLE HIGHLIGHT
The Relativity Mission (GP-B) Mission Operations Team has received a new Rational Ada compiler for the flight software test sets. The new compiler is more stable than the previous version, and the team is having great success integrating test software.
