Gravity Probe B

Testing Einstein's Universe

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING 23 January 1998:

STANFORD HIGHLIGHT
Both engineering unit Detector Package Assemblies (DPA #5 and DPA #6) are now functioning and installed on Telescope #3. Subsequent optical tests demonstrate that the centering between each post knife edge beam and the corresponding photodetector is good.

SPACE VEHICLE HIGHLIGHT
On Wednesday, January 14, 1998, in the building 205 hi-bay, the first command was successfully sent to the Gravity Probe B (GP-B) flight Power Distribution Unit (PDU). This initiated Spacecraft Power On Testing. This testing successfully verified proper polarity and voltage levels at the connectors to the primary and secondary power inputs of the flight computer, the Command and Telemetry Unit (CTU), the Interface Unit (IU), the Solid State Recorder (SSR), the Star Sensors, and Transponder.
