POSITION ON MiniSTEP PROJECT:
EDUCATION
- B.Sc. Physics, Brown University, 1967.
- Ph.D.Physics, University of Maryland, 1972.
EXPERIENCE
- 1972 - Post-doctoral Fellow, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, formerly the National Bureau of Standards). Most of his career at NIST was spent in the mass group, eventually as leader, where he developed improved techniques for mass and density determinations.
- 1990 - Fellow, Bureau International des Poids et Mesures Sèvres, France.
While at the BIPM he has developed a novel technique for determining the magnetic properties of finished mass standards that is now used in many other laboratories. He has also collaborated on the study of anelastic losses in flexures and torsion elements and has developed a simple apparatus for locating the centre of mass of gravity of mass standards used in precise weighing.
- since 1993 - Head of the Mass Section.
- since 1996 - Senior Research Physicist.
